RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of Application, Acceptance and Budget Amendment for the FY 2012 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Lead Based Paint Hazard Control Grant, if awarded.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· HUD provides funds to control or eliminate lead based paint hazards including Interim Controls and Abatement. The City of McKinney is eligible to apply for a grant administered under HUD, Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control. Funding will be used for citywide for eligible owner-occupied homes that have the greatest risk of lead hazards.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· The purpose of the funding is to significantly reduce health and safety hazards in the home, through evaluation and control work, in conjunction with lead hazard control activities.
· The grant will be used under the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Program, an important activity under the FY 2010-2014 Community Development and Housing Consolidated Plan.
· In addition to control lead based paint hazards in areas with older housing, the grant will assist in the city’s goals to outreach to affirmatively further fair housing. The department will maximize grant implementation with key community partnerships and activities to promote healthy home strategies with all residents.
