RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
? Staff recommends the City Council approve the proposed ordinance adopting the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code and amending the local amendments to the International Property Maintenance Code.
ITEM SUMMARY:
Staff is proposing to adopt the 2024 version of the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), as well as local amendments, to better align with the current adopted model codes, including the International Building Code and the International Residential Code.
Adoption of the 2024 IPMC will maintain McKinney’s alignment with a three-year code update cycle consistent with ICC recommendations and comparable to surrounding North Texas municipalities. The target effective date of the updated code is October 5, 2026.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of McKinney first adopted the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) in 2015, implementing the 2012 edition to establish minimum standards for property conditions and enforcement practices.
The IPMC is updated on a three-year cycle by the International Code Council. City staff reviewed the 2024 edition and identified two local amendments needed for consistency with the City’s existing codes, including the International Building C...
