ITEM SUMMARY:
• Arts Commission members volunteer to form a subcommittee to select 10 artists as semi-finalsits for the McKinney Airport public art call for onsite murals
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• McKinney National Airport is seeking concept proposals from Texas-based artists to create two murals at the new commercial terminal building. We are looking for artwork to be displayed on the interior baggage claim wall, as well as the exterior screening wall.
A committee comprised of members of the McKinney Arts Commission and McKinney National Airport will select 10 finalists for an opportunity to refine their concepts based on committee feedback.
Artists can submit up to two concepts. The theme of the Airport design is Heritage Modern: design blending traditional, historical charm with clean, contemporary simplicity. Our request requires artwork that highlights the McKinney area for visitors
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Total budget: $60,000
• Interior Baggage Claim North Wall - $25,000
• Exterior Screening Concrete Masonry Wall - $35,000
o Includes labor and materials for both proposed murals.
• McKinney National Airport staff will prime and prepare walls for painting.
o Top 10 finalist will receive a $500 stipend to create a maquette based on the subcommittee recommendations.
