RECOMMENDED ACTION:
• Staff recommends the City Council consider and discuss potential changes to McKinney rules for dams and provide guidance to staff about potential changes.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• City staff has recently received questions about McKinney rules regarding dams and their rehabilitation/reconstruction. For example:
o Why are McKinney's rules different than rules in other cities?
o Why are homes not allowed downstream of a dam?
• This item will highlight a few key concepts related to dams and compare McKinney’s requirements to those in other cities.
• City staff is proposing changes to the city’s regulations, which will be discussed, and additional feedback from the City Council on the proposed changes is welcome.
