Approval of Resolution to accept and, if awarded, implement the grant award to fund the enhancement of parks and medians with wildflowers.

ITEM SUMMARY:

Pollinator Partnership (P2) has recently received funding from Toyota Motors North America to provide free native wildflower seed grants to help enhance 26,000 acres of pollinator habitat projects throughout North America over five years.

This year, they are particularly interested in supporting projects that engage with their surrounding communities, especially those in historically underserved areas.

This project will help further efforts in existing wildflower areas at Erwin Park, Gray Branch, and the Greens of McKinney, and extend to three medians on N Hardin Blvd., north of Bloomdale Rd.

It will encompass a total of 10 acres combined.

Wildflowers help to increase beneficial pollinators, reduce erosion, minimize water use and create habitat for beneficial insects.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

This is the first time applying for this grant. The application submission deadline was July 12th.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The awarded amount is not specified in a monetary payment, rather the grantor will coordinate with a vendor on the shipment of the seed mix to the grantee.
