• Training will continue as the Commission receives information on city and federal grant programs under the Community Services Division, receive progress report updates, and introduction to the grant systems. New members and alternates will share insights under training and preparation for the next round of grants.
BACKGROUND:
• The Commission considers funding requests for the Consolidated Grants, reviews performance, and provides recommendations to City Council.
• The annual Consolidated Grants include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Community Support Grant (CSG) under one application process.
• The CDBG is a federally funded, formula-based grant that is allocated by the United State Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to cities with populations greater than 50,000. Funds must be used to benefit eligible McKinney residents and meet at least one National Objective. Use of funds may include public service activities, rehabilitation of existing housing; education, homelessness and homeless prevention, youth services, health services, counseling and supportive development of affordable housing.
• The CSG provides funding to non-profit community support agencies that provide activities, programs, and services to residents of Mckinney. Funds for this grant come from the City of McKinney’s General Fund.
