RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

Approval of Resolution to support the adjustment of the statewide wireless 9-1-1 service fee and establishment of a sustainable funding model for Next Generation 9-1-1.

ITEM SUMMARY:

The NCT 9-1-1 program is requesting partner support for an increase in funding. The proposed fee adjustment is justified by the advanced technology now required to meet evolving federal regulations, including emergency communication tools.

                     2023: 78,628 phone calls

                     2024: 70,975 phone calls

                     2025: 75,257 phone calls

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The NCT 9-1-1 program funds the 9-1-1 phone infrastructure including call handling equipment for the City of McKinney and it’s surrounding areas.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Resolution of support limits support of fee increase to no more than $1.04 per device, per month. Current rate is $0.50 per device and has remained the same since 1997.
