RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

Approval of Resolution to accept and implement the grant, if awarded, to fund the purchase of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs)

ITEM SUMMARY:

This request is to purchase additional AEDs to enhance the overall effectiveness of the City’s AED program and contribute to the well-being of the community by elevating McKinney’s cardiac arrest response system.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Fire Department coordinates the city’s AED program and recently transitioned to a new AED vendor.

Prior to the transition, there were approximately 82 AEDs in the program. After the transition, the City will have approximately 150 AEDs in locations throughout the city.

The grant, if awarded, will fund the purchase of another 150 AEDs, thereby doubling the number of AEDs throughout the City.

No new FTE positions are required to implement the additional AEDs.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

AFG is a 90% federal / 10% local cost share for jurisdictions with a population of 20,000 to 1,000,000.

The amount of the grant request is for $100,000.00 for the purchase of AEDs. The City, if awarded the AFG Grant, is responsible for a 10% match, or approximately $10,000.00
