Discussion of the Collin County Parks and Open Space Project Funding Assistance Program

COUNCIL GOAL:                     Enhance the Quality of Life in McKinney                                                               

(5A: Create affordable recreational and cultural arts activities for all ages throughout the city)

RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

 

                     Discussion of the item.

 

ITEM SUMMARY:

 

                     Staff will provide an overview of two County grant applications that have been submitted for funding through the 2024 call for projects.  To date, no action by the County has taken place on either application. 

 

                     The first application is for Cottonwood Creek trail with a funding assistance request of $300,000.

 

                     The second application is for Gray Branch trail, with a funding assistance request of $500,000.

 

                     Staff will also discuss the upcoming application for 2025 which will be submitted in July. 

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

                     In 2023 the citizens of Collin County approved a $20 million bond program for Parks and Open Space, with funds being allocated through 2024-2028.
