ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This grant funding would be used to purchase devices that detect harmful air pollutants called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) for use by the McKinney Fire Department’s Special Operations Team and to help monitor air safety at large special events.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) is an annual formula grant program created in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. It provides funding for equipment, planning, and training in high-risk, high-density urban areas with the goal of preventing, preparing for, protecting against, and responding to acts of terrorism.

                     The City of McKinney has received funding from this grant program since 2003.
