RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of the Recommendation.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* * The design for the dog park and play zone at Towne Lake is nearing completion, with construction expected early 2026.
* This park includes a dog park, trails, restrooms, pavilions, parking, and a play zone featuring sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.
* The City's naming policy requires that the Park Board provide a name or names to the City Council for consideration, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by City Council.
* Generally, a name(s) should be selected based on the following: Outstanding and/or predominant geographical or physical features of the land; Outstanding and/or predominant historical features of significance; Contributions of land for a park site; or in honor of a community/state leader or hero.
* The recommended name for this park is Bob Tomes Dog Park and Play Zone at Towne Lake.
* Bob Tomes was a decorated military veteran, business leader, community leader, philanthropist and loving husband, father and grandfather. His long list of accolades include 1991 Citizen of the Year, 2023 Good Samaritan Award, 2024 Congressional Veteran Accommodation, and multiple other achievements.
