RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
· Approval of this Ordinance.
ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Ordinance will accomplish the following:
o Establish the school zones and crosswalks for the two new schools opening in the 2010-2011 school year: McClure Elementary School (McKinney ISD) and Sonntag Elementary School (Frisco ISD).
o Adjust the location of the school zone on Eldorado Parkway for Evans Middle School to accommodate the installation of the traffic signal at Eldorado Parkway and Hillsdale Drive.
o Modify the school zones times for all McKinney ISD schools to reflect the recently revised school attendance schedule.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
· For the upcoming school year McKinney ISD will open McClure Elementary School on Ridge Road and Frisco ISD will open Sonntag Elementary School on Reagan Drive.
· The effective times for school zones are established as follows:
o Morning school zones begin 45 minutes before the beginning of the school attendance period and end 15 minutes after the dismissal time.
o Afternoon school zones begin 15 minutes before the end of the school attendance period and end 45 minutes after the dismissal time.
· The school attendance periods for the two new schools will be consistent with the respective McKinney ISD and Frisco ISD schedules.
· The location of the proposed school zone for McClure Elementary School is shown on the attached exhibit.
· The locations of the proposed school zones and crosswalks for Sonntag Elementary School are shown on the attached exhibit.
· The western boundary of the school zone on Eldorado Parkway for Evans Middle School must be extended 160 feet to the west to accommodate the new traffic signal at Eldorado Parkway and Hillsdale Drive.
