RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approve ordinance
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The City has been selected to receive a federal grant from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) to develop a City Safety Action Plan, which is required to submit for future grant funds to implement projects and strategies for improving roadway safety for all roadway users in McKinney.
• These grant funds are part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, which was put in place by the Biden Administration with $5 billion in funds that can be appropriated between fiscal years 2022 and 2026. The goal is to award $1 billion each year.
• Please refer to the companion agenda item for more details regarding the purpose and key components of a comprehensive City Safety Action Plan.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The City of McKinney has been selected to receive $300,000 with a 20% local match ($240,000 in federal funds and $60,000 in local funds). Final cost will be determined based on final safety action plan scoping.
• Amend the fiscal year 2023-2024 budget and the 2024-2028 Capital Improvements Program to appropriate $300,000 for the grant and the match from the Streets Construction Fund balance for the City Safety Action Plan Project ST2463.
