ITEM SUMMARY:
• The City of McKinney Public Safety Departments proposes to utilize the opioid settlement funds to expand opioid education, preparedness, and response initiatives across the City of McKinney, targeting both city employees and the broader community.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The City received $134,185.88 for the 2025 distribution from the Opioid Abatement Settlement Fund, under the Texas Treasury Trust on April 1, 2025. Political subdivisions may use their discretion to spend their allocated share of the funds, as long as the funds are used to address opioid-related harms in their communities and abide by state and federal laws. See Texas Government Code § 403.506(c)(1).
• The Public Safety Departments will utilize funds in the amount of $ 80,400 and is coordinating with the Housing and Community Development Department to use the remaining funds to issue a nonprofit grant process that will meet the above requirements. This process will be in late October, separate from the Public Safety Department expenditures.
