ITEM SUMMARY:
• On June 19, 2023 RD Foster passed away. RD Foster was the Chair of the McKinney Armed Services Memorial Board and the driving force behind getting Veterans Memorial Park built. The remaining members of the Armed Service Memorial Board wanted to honor RD’s significant contributions to Veterans Memorial Park. On September 13, 2023, the McKinney Armed Services Memorial Board unanimously made a formal recommendation to the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board to rename the Veterans Memorial Park to Corporal RD Foster Veterans Memorial Park. On September 14, 2023, the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board unanimously voted to recommend the name change to the City Council.
