• This presentation will provide information to the City Council and the public on McKinney National Airport. Topics to be discussed include the following:
• History of the airport with key milestones in growth and development.
• Airport revenues and expenses
• Long range airport planning and the City Council Strategic Plan.
• The purchase of the Fixed Based Operator (FBO)
• Construction projects at the airport
• Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone Number 2
• Property tax impacts of the airport
• Economic impacts of the airport
• Ongoing and upcoming projects at the airport
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• McKinney’s airport, then known as McKinney Municipal Airport, opened in 1979 with a 4,000-foot runway. The airport was planned by city leaders as a stimulus for economic growth in the city.
• The original runway was lengthened to 7,000 feet and an Instrument Landing System (ILS) was installed in 1993.
• The original air traffic control tower was constructed in 1996. That tower was replaced with the airport’s current air traffic control tower in 2011.
• A new runway, measuring 7,000 feet by 150 feet, was completed in 2012 with the original runway being converted to Taxiway Bravo.
• In 2013, the City of McKinney purchased the Fixed Base Operator (FBO), now named McKinney Air Center
