BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

McKinney’s airport, then known as McKinney Municipal Airport, opened in 1979 with a 4,000-foot runway.  The airport was planned by city leaders as a stimulus for economic growth in the city.

The original runway was lengthened to 7,000 feet and an Instrument Landing System (ILS) was installed in 1993.

The original air traffic control tower was constructed in 1996.  That tower was replaced with the airport’s current air traffic control tower in 2011.

A new runway, measuring 7,000 feet by 150 feet, was completed in 2012 with the original runway being converted to Taxiway Bravo.

In 2013, the City of McKinney purchased the Fixed Base Operator (FBO), now named McKinney Air Center
