ITEM SUMMARY:

This Ordinance will establish the reduced speed school zones and crosswalks for Wortham Intermediate School.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Frisco Independent School District has constructed a new intermediate school within the Craig Ranch neighborhood along Alma Road. The name of the new school is Wortham Intermediate School.

Due to number of students that reside in the immediate area, Wortham Intermediate School will have 5th and 6th grade students. Scoggins Middle School will only no longer have the 6th grade students attending the school.

The locations of the proposed reduced speed school zones along Alma Road, Chief Spotted Tail Drive and Kickapoo Drive for Wortham Intermediate School are shown on the attached exhibit.

The crosswalks shown on the attached exhibit are the locations where adult crossing guards will be positioned in accordance with our crossing guard criteria.

The school zone time periods will be consistent with the Frisco ISD school schedule.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

Funds for the crossing guards are available in the operating budget of the Engineering Department.

It is noted that Frisco ISD paid for the procurement and installation of the school zone flashing beacons and all school related signage as part of the construction of the school.
