RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Resolution
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This Resolution authorizes the execution of an Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the temporary closure of McDonald Street between Hunt Street and Davis Street for the special event of the 2026 McKinney Historic Half.
• The temporary closure will begin approximately thirty minutes before the special event starts for the day and will be reopened to traffic at the conclusion of the event.
• The temporary lane closure is estimated to extend for five (5) hours.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Dallas Marathon submitted an application for a special event permit with the City of McKinney for the 2026 Mckinney Historic Half on March 28, 2026.
• Both the 5K and half marathon events will begin at McKinney City Hall and will end at Tupps Brewery with the portion of the race course crossing McDonald Street (SH 5) at Virginia Street and Louisiana Street.
• A temporary closure along state right of way requires an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The Event Organizer will be responsible for securing and any labor to install the traffic control devices necessary for the special event as this specified race route is an independent route.
