ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     This Ordinance would allow for residents to operate golf carts on public roadways within the corporate boundaries of the City that have a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     Transportation Code, Section 551.403 permits the operation of golf carts in master planned communities and on roadways that have a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less, so long as the golf cart is being operated during the day and not more than five miles from the location where the golf cart is usually parked and for transportation to or from a golf course.

                     Transportation Code, Section 551.404 further authorizes a municipality to permit the operation of golf carts on any public roadways within the corporate boundaries of the City that have a speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less.
