RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Receive the presentation and modify the makeup or membership of the McKinney Development Committee, as appropriate.
ITEM SUMMARY:
* Established in 2018 by the City Council, the McKinney Development Committee (MDC) serves as a sounding board for potential development-oriented ordinance amendments and policy changes. Specifically, the committee's responsibilities include:
o Bringing issues with the development process forward for discussion and resolution;
o Serving as a sounding board for process improvements or service level enhancements;
o Serving as a review committee for pending ordinance amendments and other regulatory modifications;
o Serving as a resource regarding innovative ideas being implemented successfully in other communities in the region; and
o Serving as advocates in the region for development in McKinney.
* The most recent meeting of the MDC occurred in September 2022, around the time the drafting of the Unified Development Code (UDC) was being concluded. Subsequent calls for agenda topics went unanswered; therefore, no meetings were held. The Planning Department is drafting a series of larger amendments to the UDC to improve the development process and would like to discuss ideas and proposals with the MDC.
* Staff will be requesting that the City Council revisit the makeup of the committee and appoint new members, as desired.
* The makeup of the MDC currently includes:
o 2 members of the City Council;
o 2 members of the Planning and Zoning Commission;
