ITEM SUMMARY:
• Annual Proclamation, celebrating National Community Development Week and the impact of federal funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME Partnership Investment Grants, of which the City of McKinney is a recipient under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• National Community Development Week was created in 1986 by the National Community Development Association (NCDA) and several other national organizations. The main objective of National Community Development Week is the education of Congressional members on the importance of CDBG and the HOME programs, their local impact, and, most importantly, the need for increased program funding, to continue serving McKinney eligible residents. Funding is one of the city’s top legislative priorities, approved by city council.
• Annually, the city has expanded the week to recognize housing and community development efforts throughout the month of April. Activities include community partnerships with nonprofit organizations and community-wide events. This year, the city will host for the first time an Affordable Housing Summit on April 13.
