RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Adoption of Budget Amendment Ordinance
ITEM SUMMARY:
• This ordinance amends the budget to appropriate funds from the police department’s seized funds account to:
o Purchase one (1) Web Server to run the OSSI P2C (Police to Citizens) software.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• In June 2009, the McKinney Police Department implemented a new software program, OSSI.
• The main components (CAD, RMS and Mobile Field Reporting) were the primary objective, with add-ons to be discussed and implemented at a later time.
• The Web Server is equipment that is needed to run P2C, which is a program designed to assist the public by allowing them to access online reporting, accident reports, and crime information.
• In the recent Organizational Study one of the recommendations was to implement an online reporting and information sharing tool to decrease the amount of officers time needed in the field.
• This instrument will allow citizens to both obtain crime data in their neighborhood and to submit offense reports for minor crimes that do not need a police response.
• The system can also be set up to allow citizens to obtain both accident and offense reports which will not require citizens to have to come to the Police Department during business hours.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Total Cost of the Web Server, hard drive and service contract is $5,500
