RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approval of Resolution

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     If funded, this grant would fund tree plantings over five years at various city-owned sites around or near waterways with the purpose of improving water quality.

                     City staff plan to engage volunteers to assist with the labor of planting the trees.

                     The sites for the tree plantings are still being finalized. Sites being considered are in parks or near trails.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The Watershed Protection Plan (WPP) Implementation Grant provides funding to promote, support, and enhance the use of trees in approved WPPs.

                     McKinney partnered with the North Texas Municipal Water District on the development of the Lavon Lake WPP and remains a supporter today. The Lavon Lake WPP is an approved WPP, and it encourages the use of trees within the watershed for the purpose of benefiting water quality.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     Requesting the maximum allowed amount of $50,000. There is no local match required.
