RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:

Receive presentation and discuss items related to possible rail crossings that could improve access and facilitate development on the East Side.

ITEM SUMMARY:

Discuss items related to railroad crossings at Wilmeth Road, Lamar Street, and Broad Street that could improve access and facilitate development on the East Side.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

An FRA Grant is currently being pursued to fund the preliminary design of an overpass at Wilmeth Road and the DART/DGNO Railroad.

An East McKinney Mobility Study includes adding an at-grade crossing of the railroad at Lamar Street.

DART/DGNO requirements to add the Lamar crossing would be costly.

Members of The Housing and Community Development Department had a discussion with DART staff about the crossing at Broad Street. DART staff indicated they would support the project if the City pursued a grant to improve the crossing.

Staff is presenting this informational presentation to receive direction regarding the priorities of all three critical railroad crossings.
