ITEM SUMMARY:
· This Resolution authorizes a contract with Lindamood Demolition for demolition of at least one of the two former County buildings located at 210 South McDonald Street, for an amount not to exceed $450,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of McKinney purchased from Collin County the property located at the southwest corner of the intersection of McDonald Street and Davis Street with the intention for it to be the location of the McKinney Municipal Center.
Options have been evaluated for the Municipal Center including renovation of the existing buildings or total demolition/construction of a new facility.
A cost comparison was prepared by the project team and a second cost comparison was prepared by an independent consultant, both of which identified significant costs to bring the buildings into compliance with current building codes as well as significant utility and maintenance costs associated with the renovation option.
In July 2009 proposals were received from nine contractors for the demolition of the buildings and Lindamood Demolition submitted the lowest bid in the amount of $396,000 and was determined to be the top ranked firm.
The bid specifications indicated the bids were valid for 90 days.
On June 8, 2010, Lindamood Demolition confirmed they will continue to honor their bid for the demolition of both buildings through July 31, 2010.
Prior to execution of a demolition contract with Lindamood Demolition, prices will be obtained for the demolition of each of the two buildings separately.
