ITEM SUMMARY:
* A McKinney native brought this request to be considered of naming the Clubhouse at Oak Hollow Golf Course after former Mayor of McKinney, John Henry Snapp, who made unique, and lasting contributions to the community.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* John Henry Snapp was a prominent McKinney businessman, civic leader, and mayor whose vision and leadership left a lasting mark on the community during the critical years surrounding World War II. Serving as mayor in the 1940s, he championed initiatives that strengthened McKinney's economy, supported the war effort, and improved the city's future. Most notably, he was instrumental in working with state and federal leaders, including Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn, to secure the location of Ashburn General Hospital in McKinney, which later became the VA Hospital. This transformative project brought medical professionals, jobs, and long-term economic growth to the city.
Beyond his public service, Snapp was the owner of the McKinney Gin Company, a leader in the local cotton industry, a Chamber of Commerce board member, Chairman of the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church of McKinney, and an active supporter of the Boy Scouts and numerous civic causes. His dedication to McKinney's growth and prosperity earned him widespread respect throughout Collin County and Texas.
Because Oak Hollow Golf Course is located on land that was once part of the Ashburn Hospital property, naming its clubhouse in honor of John Henry Snapp would provide a meaning...
