ITEM SUMMARY:

 

                     This item recognizes National Public Works Week, observed May 17-23, 2026, and honors the contributions of public works professionals who support the City’s infrastructure, services, and quality of life.

                     The 2026 theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” highlights the essential role public works staff play in maintaining and enhancing critical systems that serve residents daily.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

 

                     National Public Works Week is sponsored annually by the American Public Works Association.

                     The City of McKinney’s Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining streets, water and wastewater systems, stormwater infrastructure, solid waste services, fleet operations, and public facilities.

                     Public Works staff also provide emergency response support during extreme weather and other critical events, ensuring continuity of essential services.

                     The proclamation is intended to increase awareness of public works services and recognize the dedication of staff who support the community.
