• This item recognizes National Public Works Week, observed May 17-23, 2026, and honors the contributions of public works professionals who support the City’s infrastructure, services, and quality of life.
• The 2026 theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” highlights the essential role public works staff play in maintaining and enhancing critical systems that serve residents daily.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• National Public Works Week is sponsored annually by the American Public Works Association.
• The City of McKinney’s Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining streets, water and wastewater systems, stormwater infrastructure, solid waste services, fleet operations, and public facilities.
• Public Works staff also provide emergency response support during extreme weather and other critical events, ensuring continuity of essential services.
• The proclamation is intended to increase awareness of public works services and recognize the dedication of staff who support the community.
