ITEM SUMMARY:

The proposed Resolution authorizes the application for and acceptance of, if awarded, a Texas Parks & Wildlife Grant for the Construction of the Erwin Park Improvements Project.

The project is planned to deliver 3 new restroom facilities and 3 new pavilions.

The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting grant assistance in the amount of $750,000.

This funding program requires a 1:1 match from the City.

The application submission deadline to Texas Parks & Wildlife is December 5, 2019, with an award announcement in spring of 2020.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The restrooms and pavilions have been in existence since the park opened in 1974 and are badly in need of replacements

This park is heavily used by mountain bikers, hikers, walkers, campers and nature enthusiasts.

These upgrades will deliver elements of the 2008 master plan for Erwin Park.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

The grant will be awarded in FY20.

The funding source for the matching funds for this grant application is $200,000 from PK9143.

If awarded, an additional $550,000 from parkland dedication zone 1 will be transferred via a budget amendment to be authorized by City Council
