RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Discuss goals for the Downtown Parking Management Study.

ITEM SUMMARY:
* The purpose of this work session item is to provide the Council with an introduction to the project consultant, Dixon Resources Unlimited and Wood Solutions Group.

* Over the next few weeks and months, the project team will be conducting outreach online and in person to solicit comments on parking in the historic downtown from business owners, employees, residents, and visitors.

* This work session item will introduce the project to the public and the City Council, and allow the City Council to provide input to the consultant team.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* In February of 2020, staff presented the Downtown Parking Study to the City Council. The study, which takes place every five years, concluded that the existing supply of parking is generally sufficient, but that utilization of outlying lots and the recently constructed Chestnut Parking Garage could be improved.

* On August 18, 2020, the City Council approved the contract for this project.

* The goal(s) of the current Downtown Parking Management Study are to identify operational or policy changes that could achieve the objectives identified in the recent study, such as improving utilization of existing parking supply and exploring options for parking east of Highway 5 / McDonald Street.
