RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
• Approval of the Resolution.
ITEM SUMMARY:
• The proposed Resolution authorizes the application for and acceptance of, if awarded, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Outdoor Outreach Program Grant for a kayak program.
• This grant would deliver a kayaking program that will meet the needs of all ages, but would focus on the following groups; active adults aged 50 and above, afterschool children, special needs populations, and females.
• The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting grant assistance in the amount of $16,000.
• This grant fully reimburses costs to the City up the award amount. No matching funds are required.
• The application submission deadline to Texas Parks & Wildlife for consideration is November 6, 2020, with an award announcement in Spring of 2021.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• Kayaking in McKinney has been a frequently requested program. In the past McKinney offered pedal boat rentals at Towne Lake Park. The Recreation Center at Towne Lake still receives calls and inquires asking for boat rentals.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• The grant will be awarded in FY21.
• If awarded, budget for the program is available in the Grants Fund contingency account
