BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In 2005-07, City staff developed a Wayfinding Master Plan that focused on the downtown shopping district and parking lots, museums, arts and sports venues. Staff plans to review this plan along with other major city master plans and standards as part of the 2021 update.

The Citywide Wayfinding and Branding Master Plan update will allow City staff to review the existing wayfinding signage and develop a more robust signage plan that accounts for all the new destinations and integrates the latest technology and gateway monument signage. The new wayfinding sign design will support the City by creating a brand that not only welcomes visitors but also encourages exploration.

Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. was selected out of four consulting firms that submitted qualifications for TR2025. They are one of eleven firms selected as part of 18-02RFQ - On-Call Traffic Engineering Services that was approved by City Council on January 16, 2018.

City staff presented to City Council on December 15, 2020 to discuss the scope of services and project fee. City Council provided direction to continue with the Citywide Wayfinding and Branding Master Plan as one (1) contract including all phases discussed.

Upon approval of the engineering services contract, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. will perform the tasks defined in the Citywide Wayfinding and Branding Master Plan scope of services.

The Citywide Wayfinding and Branding Master Plan contract does not include the development of engineering design plans and the bidding of the sign fabrication and installation. This implementation phase will be pursued after the plan is completed.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:

This Resolution authorizes a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for an amount not to exceed of $279,800.

Funds are available in the Capital Improvements Program TR2025 ($300,000).

With the approval of this item, $20,200 will remain in TR2025.
