RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION: Discussion of Consent Item of the March 2, 2021 Regular Meeting
ITEM SUMMARY:
• Beginning the week of February 14th, McKinney experienced a prolonged winter weather event that resulted in varying levels of damage to homes and businesses in the community.
• Due to the extended freezing temperatures and winter weather, the providers of electricity throughout Texas were required to administer rolling power blackouts statewide, including in McKinney.
• The result of extended periods of no power, and the single digit or lower temperatures caused plumbing failures and other related damages in many properties throughout the state, including in McKinney.
• In response, the attached resolution would allow the City Manager to introduce temporary measures relating to fees and rates of the City of McKinney to be adjusted and/or waived. These measures are intended to relieve impacted members of the community as they recover from the winter weather event.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Total financial impact of the proposed resolution is estimated to be approximately $250,000 for water rate relief.
• Total financial impact of the proposed resolution relating to fee and/or permit waivers will be variable based on usage throughout the community.
