ITEM SUMMARY:
• The McKinney Community Development Corporation will conduct a public hearing on the project grant application submitted by Heard-Craig to fund $239,494 for repairs and improvements to the Heard-Craig historic museum.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The Heard-Craig Center for the Arts is a downtown landmark and historical center that was built in 1900.
• In 1971, it was formally established as a nonprofit organization to provide “no cost” meeting facilities to more than 20 local educational and fine arts groups.
• The Heard-Craig Center is operated as an event center and art museum for the benefit of tourists, visitors and residents of McKinney with a mission dedicated to education, preservation and enlightenment.
• The Heard-Craig is a Smithsonian Affiliate, a Blue Star Museum (for military families), and a Museum-For-All participant, part of the Children’s Museum network.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds allocated for MCDC discretionary Project Grants for FY21 totaled $1,530,105.
• Remaining FY21 funds for discretionary Project Grants are $865,667.44.
• The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code - Projects related to museums and exhibition facilities.
