ITEM SUMMARY:

Mr. Shelton will present the designs for the planned new McKinney Municipal Complex, specifically focusing on the efforts to incorporate the Ice House into the design.

The Board will also receive information on the structural engineering investigation of the Ice House and the conditions leading to the proposed demolition of the structure.

The Board will then discuss plans for a permanent historic exhibit that will educate the public on the history of McKinney, with emphasis on the surrounding neighborhoods and the agri-business history of the community and surrounding properties.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The proposed McKinney Municipal Complex will be located adjacent to the railroad tracks near the intersection E Virginia and Throckmorton Streets.

The location is in a historically industrial section of the City.

The ca. 1920 Ice House located on the site has been investigated by the city hall design team of architects and structural engineers who have determined that the poor condition of the structure will require removal of the building.
