RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

                     Approval of a resolution to apply for, accept and implement the grant award to fund the purchase of bullet-resistant shields for the McKinney Police Department School Resource Officers.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

                     Grant funds will be used to purchase of bullet-resistant shields for 17 School Resource Officers and 2 School Resource Sergeants, a total of 19 shields.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

                     The grant is funded through the Department of Justice and administered through the State of Texas, Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division and funds the purchase of law enforcement equipment that will enhance the ability of the agency to respond to critical incidents and high-risk situations.

                     Prioritization will be given to officers that may respond to school safety emergencies.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

                     The police department is requesting approximately $106,599.31 in grant funds. Bullet-resistant shields cost $5,610.49 each. This will allow the department to purchase a total of 19 shields.

                     There is no minimum or maximum requirement for this grant.

                     There is no match required for this grant.
