ITEM SUMMARY:
• McKinney Community Development Corporation approved a Project Grant # 23-02 on February 23, 2023 for rooftop signage at The Flour Mill in McKinney.
• One sign will be installed on top of The Flour Mill to promote and draw visitor focus on one of McKinney’s landmark buildings.
• This request is for costs of up to $30,000 for additional verbiage on the sign to add the word “McKinney” on a new top line. Two sign designs are being presented as options for consideration.
• Additionally, the request includes engineering costs of $1,000 for work associated with installation of the new design and for electrical requirements for the lighted sign to be time-managed by an automatic timer.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
• The McKinney Flour Mill opened in 1872 and is now a historic gem and focal point in the heart of McKinney’s East Side and Historic Cultural District.
• The venue hosts corporate events, weddings and other celebrations in its unique event halls.
• Additionally, The Flour Mill is home to several local businesses.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY:
• Funds allocated for MCDC discretionary Project Grants for FY23 total $2,177,223.00, and $1,960,385.50 in funds remain unallocated.
• The request is eligible for MCDC consideration under Section 505.152 of the Texas Local Government Code - Projects related to museums, entertainment and exhibition facilities.
