RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:                     

Approval of Resolution to apply for and accept grant award, if funded, for identifying recommendations to improve the security of the City of McKinney’s information technology environment.

 

ITEM SUMMARY: 

If awarded, the funding will be used to pay for a consultant to examine how zero trust architecture would improve security of the City’s information technology environment and provide recommendations for implementation.

 

BACKGROUND INFORMATION: 

Zero trust architecture is a term used to describe security infrastructure and strategies that are based on requiring authentication to various data and limiting privileges and access to data, among other security measures.

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY: 

The City is requesting $84,800 in grant funding. If awarded funding, a 20% match is required in the amount of $21,200 for a total project cost of $106,000. The source of the 20% match is the Information Technology Department’s professional services account.
