RECOMMENDED CITY COUNCIL ACTION:
* Approval of Resolution.

ITEM SUMMARY:
* This Resolution authorizes a contract with Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. to provide consulting professional engineering services for the design of the extension of Bloomdale Road from Hardin Boulevard to Community Avenue for an amount not to exceed $750,000.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* This project will result in a new alignment of Bloomdale Road from its current terminus at Community Avenue to a future intersection with Hardin Boulevard.
* This project will provide an alternate east-west route for local traffic currently using US 380. It is also anticipated to support continued economic development in the general vicinity.
* Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. conducted a preliminary hydraulic analysis on three potential roadway crossing options: a bridge structure, con/span bridge, and a culvert. It was determined that the bridge option was most cost effective.
* Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company, Inc. submitted a response to RFQ 15-38 for Major Roadway Design. They were one of ten firms shortlisted by City Council on October 20, 2015. They were selected from this group based on their availability to perform the project and their experience with similar projects in McKinney and the DFW metroplex.
