ITEM SUMMARY:
* McKinney Community Development Corporation will conduct a public hearing on a project grant application submitted by Hugs Caf? Inc. for the purchase and installation of electrical infrastructure and equipment for Hugs Greenhouse.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
* MCDC has allocated $1,563,985 to fund community projects eligible for consideration under sections 501 to 505 of the Texas Local Government Code in FY 20.
* The mission of Hugs Caf? Inc. is to enhance the lives of adults with special needs through training and employment.

* Hugs' goal is to provide a place of competitively-paid training and employment for adults with special needs - that teach valuable skills and provide an ability-conscious career pathway.

* Hugs Greenhouse recognizes food service may not be for every person or every ability and has created a business enterprise that trains and educates adults with special needs on gardening, retail sales and provides a revenue stream for the organization.

* The Greenhouse project proposal is for the investment of heating and final propagation infrastructure for two greenhouses.

* Hugs self-financed and began construction of the greenhouses which were completed in 2019. Funding of this application will allow the project to be completely finished.
